Lego as a treatment for autism

Lego can be a serious help to children with autism. Autistic children often find it hard to interact socially with others, yet if working with others on a project involving Lego, they can actually engage with other individuals with greater ease. If a group of children are put together under the guidance of trained adult helpers, and given a Lego project to work on, the children will inevitably concentrate on the project. The children and involved and interested in the job, and all of them must work together to complete the task. If one child seems to have trouble finding his place in the group, the adult attendant can gently aid the child to re-enter the group.

Typical social skills groups usually do not provide the natural setting in which a group of children can learn social skills. If you give a group of children a lego ninjago set to play with together however, I can assure, the children will learn social skills at a much quicker pace and with greater ease. Lego Therapy was creasted by Dr. Dan Legoff who noted that children with autism were not interested in the toys in his office but they did seem very interested in the Lego.
